Snack Ideas for the dieter

In effort to curb my run away appetite I have decided that Im going to make up my meals ahead of time. Mr. Darling is trying to lose weight right now too so this will help him as well. I'm not making a menu. Anyone who reads my other blog knows how I hate menu plans. I am, however making up the food I will need for a few days at a time.

I find when I go off my diet its usually because I'm in a hurry and I don't have time to scrounge around for something to eat that will meat my diet criteria. I have long known that if I have the food made ahead then I will choose the healthy food over the bad any day.

I'm also leaning again toward the South Beach diet. It keeps my raging blood sugar in check! Of course, I will always have to count calories. Too much South Beach food is still going to make me fat.

Tonight I'm getting my recipes in order and entering their nutritional value into sparkpeople so I can just click on it and add it to my food diary.

One of the salads I love the most is South Beach chopped Salad with Tuna. It calls for tuna, cucumber, tomato, avocado, celery, radishes, and romaine lettuce. The dressing is 4 teaspoons of olive oil, 2 T fresh lime juice, 2 cloves of garlic chopped, and 1.2 tsp. of black pepper. This recipe is so crunchy and so filling and it takes care of a lot of my fresh veggies for the day.

Tomorrow I'm putting that salad into the fridge along with my homemade hummus, some turkey rollups, lo-fat custard, herbed couscous, hard boiled eggs and some gingered chicken breast.

It's easy to eat right if you have the food prepared ahead. I know this but I don't do it. Well this is it. I'm going to redouble my efforts to get this weight off.

I'll leave you with some snack ideas:

suataeed mushrooms
sugar free yogurt
fresh fruit with a wedge of laughing cow cheese
sliced cantaloupe with 2 T. ricotta cheese
small apple with 1 T. peanut butter
mozzarella cheese stick
hummus with raw vegetables
celery stuffed with laughing cow cheese
turkey rolled up in a lettuce leaf
cucumber rounds with salmon spread

Now go forth and enjoy your food this week!
