So hungry

I'm trying to figure out a way to eat more bulk. For four months now I have gone around with an empty stomach. Its not a good feeling. I feel like I'm in a third world country; Ive forgotten what it feels like to have my belly full. I get up from every meal hungry. That takes extreme willpower to go around hungry all the live long day. One can only diet for so long using will power, eventually it will lead to sabotage.

Tonight I went out with friends for dinner and one of the guys ordered a plate of nachos that came heaping with guacamole and sour cream and dripping with melted cheese! I thought of the five lettuce leaves and one T of L. ranch dressing that was in my belly at the time and I would have almost killed him for that food. One of the other guys ordered a Philly steak sandwich. The smells were making my stomach hurt! I set there and ordered a small drink.

I cant eat anything at 7 pm. Ive known that for years. Anything I eat after about 5 pm goes straight to fat. Its like my system shuts off then.

Well I'm tired of being hungry so I've decided to go as bulky as I can on my food. From here on out its lots of veggies and lots of popcorn. I just want the dull ache in my stomach to go away.

I've been doing about 1200 calories a day since January. It's time to exercise so I can eat a little bit more. Between the exercise and the raw veggies I'm hoping to still the rumbling in my tummy.

  1. Salad. You can eat salad till you puke and it's only 10 calories or something. Get the good dressing and use only a dribble. I've always bought light dressing and thought it was pretty good, but last time hubby picked it out, and got regular. It tastes so much better.

How do I contact you privately to give you my address?

  2. 1200 calories? That's just wrong!

Don't starve yourself, lady. And if you thought I would lay off, think again. I don't want you passing out in the middle of the church service...

You have done an incredible job (30lbs in 4 months!) and you are looking GREAT...give yourself a break.

    Remember...I nag because I CARE.

  4. I know what you mean about the empty tummy. I was down in the dumps all day yesterday. I was afraid to fill my tummy because I was afraid I would go over my calorie allowance. I didn't.

I keep on fearing that I will have tummy troubles for the rest of my life to get to my goal weight and stay there. As a teen, I stayed fairly fit, but I didn't eat much of anything. My mom kept me stocked up on Tums (I carried a pack a roll in my pocket). During marching band and softball seasons I did eat more, but I still took very tiny portions and then left the table as soon as I was done so I wouldn't be tempted to eat more. I think I struggled with the low blood sugar then too. My mom was told I had low blood sugar when I was a child, but in my teen and early adult years that information was overlooked.

Mrs. Darling, you said you had hypoglycemia as well, didn't you? I'm finding out more and more that people with hypoglycemia struggle with being hungry all the time. It's a crazy balancing act. Maybe we could share anything that we discover helps us. Be careful, no one needs you passing out!

  5. Yes I do have hypoglocemia and the reason we struggle with being hungry is because we produce way more insulin then the normal person. Insulin demands feeding! A huge solution to this is to eat protein. It calms the beast. I refuse though to do the Atkins diet. Ive had enough Atkins days in my past to last me a lifetime.

  6. Sweetie you can have protein and not be on atkins. Do 5-6 small meals a day. Have 2-3 oz of protein with a complex carb and fruit/veggies. It's a simple way of eating and works well for weight loss. It's about portion control not calorie control. You will feel more full and less depressed. I don't want to see you passing out anywhere either. Have your protein at every meal you need it sweetie! ((hugs))

  7. Have you tried eating more whole wheat? I'm sure that you know about how much more filling it is than more-processed wheat. When I bake something, I try to use half whole wheat flour.

  8. fierybydesign I eat an amazing amount of protien. I have to for my blood sugar. I have protein at every meal. I only mentioned atkins because the very strict from of atkins puts your body in ketosis and then you're not hungry anymore. Its the only way I know to get rid of total hunger and I dont want to use that strict of a diet, know what I mean?

and yes, nikki I so agree that whole wheat is better than the white. We buy only stoneground breads and all my home made bread is made with part whole wheat but I have a huge suspicion that Im allergic to wheat. I really dont want to find out cuse then I'll have to do something about it. Thats awful I know but the truth nonetheless.

  11. Three great things help with stopping the tummy feeling empty.

    1. Having a drink of water. That will offset any misdiagnosis caused by being thirsty.

    2. Less meat more veg - I'm no veg fan but I do know that it is a great fill up fuel.

    3. Eating. When you feel hungry it is your bodies way of telling you that you need to eat more food. It is okay to go without for up to 30-40 days but any longer and you are in to the danger zone.

Our bodies have a defence to stop us dieing if there is no food and that defence is to store whatever it can as body fat. Effectively your body goes into "starvation mode".

You will probably had the fact that I munch cake, chocolate, cheese and crisps most weeks and am still slimming. What I have been doing is resetting my bodies understanding of the availability of food.

All I can say is that this works for me.

  12. Yes Matt I read that and I cant wit to have more time to read your site to figure out how this all works. I do have to say that I still eat the occasional cookie. Last week I had icecream twice. As you know wit a hudnred pounds to loe I have to make this a vey workable plan just as you did. I cant live on salads the rest of my life so Im not trying to lose weight with salads. I've lost my weight by eating everyday foods that I will be eating the rest of my life. Im looking forward to perusing your blog some more.
