The whole food approach

Lest anyone think this diet thing is easy just let me tell you its not. Staying on the program takes continual vigilance especially at my age. The weight does not want to budge. I seem to reach a plateau about every five pounds! Seriously.

I can see I'm going to have to add an exercise program to this whole thing this year. My knee is swollen right now and I have tennis elbow that is all flared up but when everything calms down I am going to hit the exercise full on!

I've been having great success with eating whole foods. It really wasn't too big of a stretch for me. The bigger challenge is getting my family switched over. I have a 7 year old son that needs to switch to whole foods as he has a tendency to gain weight easily.

Yesterday we had soup and cheese sandwiches for lunch along with my home canned pickles and vegetable sticks. For dinner I made refried beans and rice. I grilled chicken and put fajita seasoning on it and sauteed peppers and onions to go with it. We have had this meal many times before but this time I was struck with how on plan it was. The kids love it so it has become a standby.

My weight hasn't moved this week so I will definitely still have to count calories regardless of how wholesome my food is!

  1. I'm thankful that one of my two children is adaptable and will eat pretty much anything. My other son won't touch it if it has too much color or crunch. I can't sneak anything by him.

Good luck with the exercise. I know I need to do it too, but I'm taking baby steps.

  2. Congrats on such a great job in 2008! Doesn't it suck that we have to trade off low calories with whole ingredients?
