A New Direction

Okay Vanessa is dying to know my new plan. Well Lord knows I need a new one. Getting on a life plan for eating is tough. It can get boring if your not careful so I have found little ways to tweak the main plan to better get me to my goal. You're fooling yourself if you think you can do a diet from a book and stay on it for life. It will work in the short term but eventually you will have to figure out what works or doesn't work for you. That's where I'm finding myself once again.

So my new plan of action is going to include upping my calories by 200 a day, walking 15 minutes three times a week, and drinking 4 glasses of water a day. I can just see hardened diet gurus shaking their heads at this. I can hear them mutter,"Four glasses of water? 45 minutes of exercise? Hows that going to change things?"

Well when I am getting no exercise and when I am drinking one ounce of water a day with my pill then this new plan becomes significant. I have also found that if I start drinking water I get hungry for water. If I start exercising I want to do more. So I begin in baby steps that I know I can do. The biggest way to failure is to plan big grandiose things and then not meet your goal. It sets you up for defeat in a big way.

To help me toward this goal I am going to post my total number of exercise minutes and my daily totals for water on Monday and on Thursdays. On Monday I should be recording 16 glasses of water. On Thursday I should record 12 glasses.

My girlfriend and I have periodically sent a list of what we eat daily via email to each other. If any of you are interested in getting an email of what I eat daily let me know and I'll send it to you. We are not doing calories in the email just the food eaten and the amount. We both find that if we report calories then we tend to go to low. If you would like to have a part in this tell me in the comments or email me at gtsawjata(at)yahoo.com and I will get you added to the email loop.

Now the huge thing for me. I'm going to give up bread. Yikes that one hurts! I eat about 5 slices of bread a day. I love bread and it takes the place of cookies and other sweets that are easy to grab. Well, that's just the problem. I'm using it to replace snacks and its not a good thing. I need to get rid of it. Now I don't plan on going with this one long term. This is just an experiment for now to get things jump started.

And yes I gained weight in Idaho. I gained 4 pounds actually so we shall see where I come in at on Thursday.

Mrs C is coming back on board. Welcome. I will wait until a week from Thursday to change anything for you, Mrs C. At that point give me all your stats.

Okay so here we are ready to begin the downward journey. I always get excited at this point. I need to forever keep in mind the healthy changes occurring within while I struggle with all that is without!

  2. It sounds like you are heading in the right direction and you know yourself pretty well and what will work for you. I had started exercising in February, and keeping a food journal, I went over 1 month without loosing a pound! But since I had my journal I went back to see what I was doing wrong. Found out I wasn't having a protein with every meal. I changed that last week, and I'm down almost 4 pounds! I'm not as hungry and my calories are less per day then before. When I started exercising I was aiming for 4 days a week, now I aim for at least a 30 minute walk a day. Feels Good! I'm looking forward to hearing of your results!

  3. It sounds like a great plan to me, too!

When I was a teen I was at a good weight and was very athletic. My sister, on the other hand, has some physical disabilities and she started having weight problems in late grade school. My mom was always trying to find ways to help my sister lose weight. Anyway, my mom had heard that you could lose weight if you quit eating bread products. So, she challenged my sister, herself, and me to go without eating any bread for a month. Mom said whoever went the whole month would get $20.00. My mom and sister did not last. My mom took my sister out to eat and they both ate bread somewhere around day 20. I used to have really good willpower. I waited until after the month had been up for a couple days before eating bread. I asked if I got the money and was told that continuing was a stipulation. LOL I think she was just upset that her plan backfired. I wish I was as good at the willpower thing now!

  6. I liked the idea of baby steps, especially regarding the water and exercise. I have been one of those people who were just never thirsty and had to force a few drinks of water down, but, like you, I've found the more I drink the more I want to drink so I keep working on it. Congrats on losing 50 and maintaining it! That is awesome.
