These bones are aching

I have actually been getting out and walking this week. Ive walked until the front of my legs ache. It's odd really. I thought my back and knees would be the problem but its the front of my legs from the knee to the ankle that are killing me. What in the world am I doing wrong? Am I tensing up while I walk or what?

I really hope things are on the upswing with my diet and exercise now. This is just one hard journey and don't let anyone tell you differently. You really have to be either all the way in or all the way out. Half hearted efforts aren't going to get you to your goal! This takes commitment and dedication! Prepare yourself for the long haul!

  1. Hi Mrs. Darling,

It sounds like you are experiencing what we call "shin splints". I get them every spring when I start walking outside again, rather than on the treadmill. Very painful! My husband says they are tiny stress fractures. When they heal, your bones get stronger. I don't know if that's true but it seems to make sense. I'm sure there is a lot of information available on-line now.

I take a day or two off and then go again. The pain always disappears (for me) after the first few walks, with rests in between when the pain is too severe.

I hope your pain will go away soon.

  2. It's the shoes. If they are not walking shoes, you will continue to have that shin pain.

I went through the same thing. I was in so much pain every time I went walking.

I finally talked to my doc about it and he told me to buy "walking shoes." He said it's all about balance. And the wrong shoe will through off the center line to your body as you walk.

  3. You're absolutely right - dieting takes commitment and dedication. We must remain focused. And let's not forget that it is a lifetime commitment. Turn your back too long and the pounds have a way of sneaking back.

Oh, congrats on having 50 followers!
